Description
Image of a view from the Arcadia Hotel of the bridge leading from the hotel and the Southern Pacific Railroad Station (not pictured) in Santa Monica, California. A building with a sign reading "Pavilion Restaurant and family resort Eckert and Hopf prop." is at left and a trolley car, train car and trestle are seen in the background at upper right.
"101. Birds eye view of Santa Monica Cal."--text, on item. "Arrange no's 100 101 103 in straight line and you will have a full view of Santa Monica"--text, handwritten in pencil on verso. Stamped advertisement for Pacific Photography Gallery on verso: "Pacific Photograph Gallery. On the beach at Santa Monica, Calif. ... H.F. Rile." Title transcribed from item; date devised by cataloger based on the history of the Santa Monica Hotel, which burned down in 1889, and is not visible in the far left of this picture as in related item photCL_555_09_104, and the development of the landscaping of the depot area as compared to later images of the area.
