Description
Annotation translation: "Elephant being led out with the holy tooth to take part in a procession. The famous relic of the holy tooth is kept in a temple in the town of Kand on the isle of Ceylon. It is supposed to be a tooth of the Buddha, which is kept there carefully as a valuable relic. Once a year the relic is carried through the town in a magnificent procession. On the photograph we see the richly decorated elephant who carries a little temple in which the tooth is preserved." Annotation: "Elefant wird mit dem heil. Zahn zur Prozession geführt. Auf der Insel Ceylon findet sich in der Stadt Kandy der Tempel, der die berühmte Reliquie des heiligen Zahnes birgt. Es handelt sich dabei um einen angeblichen Zahn Buddhas, der dort als wertvolle Reliquie aufbewahrt wird. Einmal im Jahr wird der Zahn in grossartiger Prozession durch die Stadt getragen.
