Harley Hamilton was born in the state of New York in 1861 to Erastus H. and Susan C. (Williams) Hamilton. Studied music at the New York College of Music, graduating in 1882. Married Nellie E. Ferris in 1887. Eventually setlled in Los Angeles (in 1887), California where he worked as violin instructor and musician (violinist). Established the Los Angeles Symphony Orchestra (1898) and Women's Symphony Orchestra of Los Angeles (1892), serving as musical director/conductor. Died in 1933.
