Photograph was edited for publication purposes Photograph article dated June 27, 1961 partially reads, "Coco, a two-pound Chihuahua, had police dog potential. He'd bark at police sirens when they went by. But he failed his final exam today. When he was let out into his back yard at 12403 Valleyheart Dr. at 6 a.m. he missed a suspected burglar who had been sitting there three hours in a discarded chair eluding police. 'I was in bed,' said Coco's owner, Mrs. Earl Alvord, 'Then I heard all that shooting. I thought it was backfire...I went to the window. I saw him lying down there,' she said, pointing, 'down by the wash.' The man she had seen was Paul E. Hurley who police suspected had robbed Joe Kirkwood's driving range office three hours before and hidden in her back yard while police carried on a house to house search." Leslie Smith, 10, is seen holding Coco, the two-pound chihuahua, while her sister, Rhonda, 12, looks at the chair where suspect Paul Hurley used while hiding in the back yard of their grandmother's house.; See images #00125926 through #00125928 for all photos in this series.
