Walter Hepting was born in Sacramento (father was from Switzerland, mother from Germany). Worked for the State Treasurer's Office. Was amateur historian, collected old photographs and images of Sacramento. "2nd & Kay st. Looking West. 'Old Gem Saloon', left. before that Mint Saloon. 'Bank Exchange Saloon', right, still in business since 1856. Bldg. erected in 1852."
