Photograph caption dated December 12, 1963 reads "Mrs. Santa Claus is the newest Red Cross volunteer, and she will be in the Valley Friday giving out Save-A-Life Sunday posters to stores and information to the public on how to 'share the real joy of giving' by being a blood donor on Dec. 22--Save-A-Life Sunday. She will be accompanied by Herman Hemoglobin, a blood-drop-shaped elf who has been chosen by the Red Cross as a blood donor mascot. Mrs. Claus is putting the finishing touches on one of the Hermans in the picture above. Prospective donors may call 873-1526 for a blood bank location."
