Hotel Astor, at the corner of Hill and 2nd streets, has a storefront for lease - contact "F.W. Kadletz & Co." The Dairy Lunch Cafeteria, also a Hotel Astor storefront, has entrances on both Hill and 2nd. Traffic crosses the intersection while a streetcar waits at the crosswalk. The device in the front of the streetcar is an Eclipse fender. These were required on streetcars in L.A. by city regulatory bodies beginning ca. World War I. They were supposed to scoop up a pedestrian who got in the way. The photo is signed: "Public Service Bldg., Los Angeles, North Pacific Const. Co. Contrs." Photo dated: Sept. 25, 1925.
