Photographer note reads, "This parish is almost totally Spanish, as is Wilmington. The stain glass windows for the sacraments are in Spanish. Inside was total awareness of 'sacred space'". View of the altar located inside Holy Family Catholic Church showing a beautiful, large painting of a dove in flight surrounded by clouds. Statues of Jesus on a crucifix and two kneeling angels on either side of Him rest on a mantle, with another statue depicting the Holy Family below it. Holy Family Catholic Church was founded in 1929 and is located at 1011 East "L" Street and the corner of Sanford Ave. in the city of Wilmington. Photo #00003211 shows a similar view of the unadorned altar in 1952.; The Holy Family consists of Child Jesus, the Virgin Mary, and Saint Joseph. According to Christian Gospel accounts and tradition, Joseph was the husband of Mary and the legal father of Jesus of Nazareth. Christian faith tradition also holds that Joseph did not physically beget Jesus, but that Mary's conception was believed to have been an act of the Holy Spirit, since Mary was a virgin at the time of the birth. Little else is known of Joseph except that he was apparently a skilled craftsman or carpenter. In contrast, Mary is one of the most highly venerated saints in the Catholic Church. Photo dated: September 2007.
