Description
2008-1697 PHOTO: SISKIYOU COUNTY: SHASTA SPRINGS Views of resort and surrounding area of Shasta Springs. The resort operated from late 1800's to 1950's. View 1 (2008-1697). "Shasta Springs, Cal." Shows Sacramento River, Shasta Springs bottling works, station and base of incline railway. Geyser visible on right, probably Oxone Spring -- view 2 (2008-1698). Shows water powered incline railway car part way up mountain. Group of men and women seated inside -- view 3 (2008-1616). Shows building, paths, landscaped grounds of hotel complex above station depot -- view 4 (2008-1699). "Moss Brae Falls, Cal." Shows Sacramento River canyon with falls to left. Shasta Springs was depot and resort on the Shasta Division of Southern Pacific Railroad. Built around Shasta Springs, railroad stopped to allow passengers to drink spring water.
