"The Council of Churches of Santa Clara County was founded in the spring of 1942. In 1999, the Council boasted a membership of 250 churches and religious organizations throughout California. There are 32 churches in Northern California. And in June of 1997 Vaughn Beckman, an openly gay man, was chosen to be the organization's executive director.."
