Description
Esther Williams discusses her autobiography, “Million Dollar Mermaid.” She begins by talking about how she wanted to be the star of the family after the death of her older brother. She began competitive swimming in Los Angeles, and planned on competing in 3 events in the 1940 Olympics until it was cancelled due to World War II. She describes how she got into the movie business and what it was like to work at MGM studios. She talks about working on movie sets while pregnant, and how she almost got killed during one filming. Williams ends the interview by discussing her first 3 failed marriages, and how relationship dynamics change when one partner is a movie star.
