Description
Image of French aristocratic men in historic costumes and long hair embracing women around the stone stairs of an abbey with nuns and soldiers with rifles in the background; the poster may advertise the comic opera "Nanon" set in Paris, France, during the reign of King Louis XIV, and originally written in German by librettist Camillo Walzel (under the pseudonym F. Zell) with a score by Richard Genee.
Margins and title trimmed on local copy; title supplied by cataloger; probable date range supplied by cataloger based on similar scenes in poster advertising the play "Nanon" in collection (see priJLC_ENT_000420) and general history of play; "Nanon" was first performed in the United States in 1885.
