Presidential candidates, from left to right, Gustavo Anzueto Vielman of the Nationalist Authentic Center, Alejandro Maldonado of the National Renewal and Guatemalan Christian Democracy parties, Mario Sandoval of the National Liberation Movement, and Lionel Sisniega Otero, Sandoval's running mate, at a press conference. Behind them there is a large group of men standing against the wall. In front of the candidates there is a large group of journalists and photojournalists documenting the press conference. The three candidates and running mate held a press conference to claim voter fraud in the 1982 elections against Ángel Aníbal Guevara. A military coup prevented Guevara from assuming power and installed a three-man junta headed by General Efraín Ríos Montt.
