In 1950, recovering from a near-fatal car accident, Hogan chose Riviera as the site of his comeback. That time, Snead exacted revenge by beating Hogan in a playoff. The 1948 U.S. Open at Riviera, as Ben Hogan (putting) defeated a field that included Sam Snead (driving). Hogan was inextricably linked to Riviera. In 1932, he played his first tournament on the PGA Tour there, finishing 38th and earning $8.50. Hogan won the L.A. Open at Riviera in 1947 and 1948; coupled with his U.S. Open win, it's no surprise that Riviera has been dubbed "Hogan's Alley." Photo dated: June 16, 1948.
