Photograph was edited for publication purposes Charles Luckman was born in 1909 in Kansas City, Missouri. He was a noted architect and businessman, active in community and civic events in Los Angeles. In 1946, President Harry Truman appointed Luckman to serve on the President's Committee on Civil Rights, and in 1947, Truman asked him to help with a hunger crisis in Europe. As a partner with William Pereira in Pereira & Luckman, and later with his own firm, Charles Luckman Associates, he designed or was involved in the designs of the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, the Theme Building at Los Angeles International Airport, Madison Square Garden in New York, The Forum in Inglewood, California, and many other buildings. He died in 1999. Photograph caption dated June 12, 1962 reads "Luckman answered questions of Valleyites." The article partially reads "Architect Charles Luckman, stung by what he considers unfair criticism of his firm, detailed again Tuesday why he recommended Griffith Park over Pacoima's Jessup Park for the Los Angeles World Zoo." The meeting took place in a conference room at Charles Luckman Associates offices at 9200 Sunset Boulevard.
