Photograph caption dated January 9, 1962 reads, "Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Abbene and their seven children arrived at Los Angeles International Airport this week from Freeport, N. Y., with plans to make their new home in Canoga Park. As result of Gov. Edmund G. Brown's announcement that California has already surpassed New York as the most populous state in the union, Bede Gallup, left rear, of the Canoga Park Chamber of Commerce presented the Abbene family with a bouquet, citing the family as 'symbolic' of those moving to California. The children, with Mrs. Abbene holding Alex, 1, are Lisa, 11; Bonnie, 10; Pat, 9; Laurabeth, 7; Victor, 6; and Virginia, 4."
