Description
This circa 1960 photograph shows a stretch of Third Street, between L and M Streets. The Tokyo Hotel, owned by Toshio Akahori, sits at 1222 Third Street. Within its first floor is the El Ranchero Cafe, owned by Lupe Cervantes. To the right is the Moonlight Cafe at 1218 Third Street, owned by Harry M. Motonaga, and the Modern Barbershop at 1216 Third Street.
The Sacramento Redevelopment Agency destroyed these buildings as part of midcentury "urban renewal" programs.
