"Paper images to be burned at Dusehra festival". Photograph of a large effigy for burning during the Indian festival of Dussehra. Dussehra is celebrated on the tenth day of the Hindu autumn lunar month of Ashvin. This belongs to a series of Church of Scotland Foreign Missions Committee lantern slides relating to Jammu City, which is also known as the "City of Temples". A mission station occupied by Church of Scotland missionaries was founded here in the late 19th/early 20th century. Jammu is also one of the three administrative divisions within Jammu and Kashmir, the northernmost state in India.
