Harriett Wieder was the second female mayor of the City of Huntington Beach 1976-1977, having served on the City Council from 1974 through 1978. Previously, she had been the long-time assistant to L.A. Mayor Sam Yorty. Following her service to Huntington Beach, she was elected the first female Orange County Supervisor. She served the County in various ways for the remainder of her life, a strong advocate of health care, women's issues and preservation of natural space. Today, a 106 acre parcel planned to include play spaces, picnic areas and miles of trailhead is named in her honor. This is a film of an interview conducted for the Huntington Beach then-active television channel and focuses on her years of local service and the ways in which it informed her subsequent work. This film was professionally shot and produced by employees of the City of Huntington Beach. AUO199, "Reflections by Former Mayors" cat former mayors, ref 1146
