Description
Postcard of a man, who appears to be in his twenties, wearing formalwear: a low-cut waistcoat, with a white shirt and white tie, and a tuxedo jacket with satin collar. He is clean-shaven, with dark wavy hair and thick eyebrows. Written on the reverse, "To Dr. Harris with best wishes from R. A. Ellis." A granddaughter of Ellis, who owns a similar photograph, identified this in 2022 as Reginald A. Ellis. He was born in England in 1889 and came to America in 1909. He studied at the College of the Pacific in San Jose. This may date from Ellis' time as a tenor in Carey's California Quartet, or possibly the Pacific Male Quartet. He attended the College of the Pacific between 1914 and 1917, and enlisted in the Army in 1917.
