Man identified as [James W.] Lytle stands at a long table covered in fossil bones in a room lined with boxes of bones. A caption from Chester Stock's Rancho La Brea book reads, "Assistant vertebrate paleontologist J.W. Lytle in the "bone room" in the basement of the Natural History Museum Los Angeles County sorting material recovered from the 1913-1915 excavation" (reverse of title page).
