Description
Photo--black and white: The Janssen Hotel and Janssen Hall on North Main Street Sebastopol circa 1890s. The Janssen Hotel was built on North Main Street in 1880 and was operated by Mrs. A. Janssen. The hotel would have been located by McKinley Street in the current parking lot. Janssen's Hall was used for meetings and social events was located in the approximate location of the IOOF Hall. Mrs. Janssen sold her entire business concern to Mr. William Dowds of Lincoln, Placer County in 1900. Soon after, Mr. Dowds changed the hotel name to the United States Hotel. The building was destroyed by fire in the early 1920s.
