Born Julia Ann Swift in 1829 in New York State to Ichabod Swift, Jr. and Louise Spencer Swift. Married Rudolph H. Raymond (Julia Ann Raymond) in 1849, later divorced in 1856; married James Ferdinand Rudolph in 1856 in Nevada City. Arrived in California via Panama in 1856 (following her first husband who had come during Gold Rush), settling in Nevada City. Eventually the Rudolphs divided their time between Sacramento and Nevada City, with Mrs. Rudolph maintaining photograper's studio in both cities. Was the first woman photographer in California. Died in Philadelphia in 1890.
