Image shows portrait of Melroy Hodge, who won first prize in first annual birdhouse competition, the cumulation of a manual training department assignment at Malaga Cove School. Students made thorough investigations into the habits and tastes of the various birds for which the houses were to be built and installed around the school grounds. Prizes, consisting of three books on birds, were presented to the boys by Frank A. Vanderlip.
