Looking north up Hill Street at Second to the Hill Street tunnel bored through a part of Bunker Hill in 1909 by Los Angeles Pacific (a predecessor of Pacific Electric). A woman crosses Hill, busy with automobile, bus, and streetcar traffic. The Vendome Hotel is on the left. An arcade store and the Green Leaf Cafe are on the right, before the Hotel Astor. The streetcar tracks, visible in the foreground, have three rails per track because the route was shared between Pacific Electric and Los Angeles Railway, which used a narrower (42 inch) gauge.
