Description
Two women are depicted in a room with a dog at their feet. The woman on the left faces away and wears a black bonnet with purple ribbon. Her dress is black with a wide black velvet edging at the hem. Her sleeves are long, full, and gathered. The woman on the right wears a white bonnet with green ribbon. Her dress is a matching green color, but is covered up by a brown mantelet with wide sleeves and buttons on the turnbacks and horizontal military style frogs down the front. She looks down at the dog sitting at her feet. Both skirts are very wide; it is the height of the crinoline fashion.
