The plant was owned by Maria Quevedo in the 1920s or 1930s and located at 110 North Spring Street, in Los Angeles. Mexican women are shown making tortillas by hand at the tortilla factory, El Sol del Mayo. The corn for the tortillas was ground by hand with stone mortars. The two women at the forefront of the photo are smoking cigarettes while they are making the tortillas.
