Inauguration of the FJKM (Fiangonan'i Jesoa Kristy eto Madagasikara or Church of Jesus Christ in Madagascar) and 150th anniversary of the arrival of the Gospel in Madagascar. The reverend Charles Westphal (on the left), president of Fédération Protestante de France, also representative of the Société des Missions Evangéliques de Paris (Paris evangelical missionary society) of which he is vice-president and representative of the World Council of Churches (he was a member of its central comity between 1961 and 1968) is welcomed by Jacques Rabemananjara, minister of the Foreign office of the malagasy republic. Mr. Rabemananjara is also the mayor of Toamasina, where the first protestant missionaries arrived in 1818 and where some official ceremonies were organised for the anniversary.
