Description
Bust length portrait of Mrs. Harriet Williams (Russell) Strong.
2015-4479.
Born in Buffalo, N.Y. in 1844. Married Charles Lyman Strong in 1863. Purchased land from Don Pio Pico in Los Angeles, Rancho del Fuerte. After several years, settled in Oakland where Mrs. Strong was active in the Ebell Society of Oakland. After Mr. Strong's death in 1883, returned to Los Angeles ranch where she raised walnuts, pampas grass and other crops, active in agricultural research. Also was inventor, patenting a series of dams and making a study of water problems. She was active in variety of clubs in Los Angeles, was talented musician and composer. Died in 1926.
