When in 1912 Santa Clara College became the University of Santa Clara, a full history of the institution and of its connection with the Mission of Santa Clara was given in an excellent volume: "University of Santa Clara. A History from the founding of Santa Clara Mission to the beginning of the University, 1912." A work so well done should not be repeated. Nevertheless a Jubilee Volume, such as this we now present, naturally covers the period intervening between jubilee and bubilee. This then is our apology for beginning our history, not with the inauguration of the University, but with the Golden Jubilee of a quarter of a century ago.
