Description
Pictured in 1942 is the Fox Capitol Theater at 615 K St. Its marquee advertises the premiere of "In Old California," starring John Wayne. The theater also promoted the purchase of war bonds with the phrase "Slap the Jap." In the foreground and serving as a promotional prop is a covered wagon. The Capitol Fox holds the unique distinction for the being the first Sacramento theater to show an all-sound feature in 1928’s “The Lights of New York,” starring Helene Costello and Cullen Landis. The theater closed in 1957.
