Description: In 1898, a new baseball league called the Sacramento Gilt Edges was formed. Joining Sacramento in the league were the Oakland Reliance, San Francisco Athletics and the San Jose and Santa Cruz Beachcombers. This photo captures the 10 players of the Sacramento Gilt Edges, led by pitcher Charles Doyle. This team also was the championship team of the Coast League from 1898 to 1900.
