Description
Shown in circa 1910 is the first-floor lobby of the Crocker Art Museum at 216 O St. The doorways and stairways are made of walnut, while the paneling is made of California laurel. Through the door to the right of the photograph is the museum’s ballroom. The original structure was built to house art purchased by E.B. Crocker and his wife, Margaret, during a grand European tour in 1870-71. Built near the family’s home at Third and O Streets, the three-level gallery cost $235,000.
