Photograph of Mission Santa Barbara, showing doorway at head of stairway leading from the long hall to the holy garden, California, 1898.At center, a large arched, wooden doorway can be seen. Beyond the doorway, a stairway rail can be seen at right, and a set of metal bars are visible in the background. At right, a legible directory of the building is mounted on the wall. At the top of the directory, the acronym "IHS" can be seen. Father Superior Bergmeyer supposedly stood to the right of this doorway when he was shot on February 27, 1896.
