Description
2006-0227. Photograph of an oil painting owned by the California State Library of Sutter's Fort painted by Manuel Valencia about 1875 based on a drawing by Valencia's father, Manuel Valencia. Shows the fort's walls, tile roofed buildings; woman and two vaqueros with horses in front of the fort. One copy (4 3/8 x 6 3/4 in.) made by Hodson from original in 1920's or 1930's; one copy (7 x 11 in.) made by Frederick-Burkett Photographers. In 2007, Palmer Photographic made photographic copies of oringial oil painting for preservation. Project created four color (8 x 10 in.) photographic prints; four black & white (8 x 10 in.) photographic prints. Also have negative: no. 1097 (4x5 in. and 7x5 in.) Also have negatives from Palmer project: no. 1,097 (4 x 5 in.) consisting of four b/w; four color; and four color transparencies.
