Description
Photograph of Third Street looking east from Hill Street in Los Angeles, ca.1876. A wide, unpaved dirt road stretches diagonally from the bottom center of the photograph to the extreme left above, with rows of trees obscuring the craftsman-style houses to the right. Crude pose-and-wire fences are visible outlining and separating two cleared lots to the center left. The roundhouse of the Depot of Los Angeles and the Independence Rail Road Station can be seen above the rooftops in the background. Farm and orchard land covers the rest of the distance to the horizon.
