Henry Huntington had the San Joaquin and Eastern Railroad built to provide access to the Big Creek Project. Primarily a freight-hauling line, the few passengers who endured the long jolting trip to the project nicknamed the railroad the "Slow, Jerky, and Expensive." Pg. 104.
