After defeating Sonny Liston to win the heavyweight championship of the world, Cassius Clay announced that he had joined the Nation of Islam and had changed his name to Muhammad Ali. Here, on stage at the Olympic Auditorium, Ali sits next to Nation of Islam leader Elijah Muhammad. Dated August 9, 1964.
