Description
Two men with survey equipment in front of a shack, with a tent and horse and carriage. Location is unidentified, but writing on back says "Telephone station at No. 5 dam, showing the land in its natural state."
Title devised by cataloger. "Telephone station at No. 5 dam showing the land in its natural state"--text, handwritten in pencil on verso. Location in California determined by photographer based in Los Angeles -- "Putnam & Valentine photo Los Angeles, Cal"--text, stamped on verso. Possibly part of the Big Creek hydroelectric project (Fresno County)? Date approximated by cataloger based on history of photography partnership (see Carl Mautz, Biographies of Western Photographers, page 134).
