Description
Shows Miss Maurer with group of Chinese men, women and children. Katharine R. Maurer was born in Milmay, Canada, in 1881 to the Rev. and Mrs. John Michael Maurer. She attended North Central College in Naperville, Illinois. Moved to San Francisco, attended the San Francisco National Training School, training to become a deaconess. In 1912, she was appointed to the Angel Island United States Immigration Service under the auspices of the Women’s Home Missionary Society of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Known as the Angel of Angel Island. She died in 1962. 2013-1705. Removed from: Katharine R. Maurer Collection, 1913-1977.
