Description
Engraved map, 54 x 44.3, of Briggs-Blaeu type, dated Amsterdam, 1666. In "De Zee-atlas," issued by Goos in the same year in Amsterdam. The Goos "Zee-Atlas" was re-issued in 1668 in Amsterdam and in 1675 with 42 maps. Also in French as "Le grand et nouveau mirroir ou flambeau de la mer," in Amsterdam, 1697, by G. Lootsman. Also in English in Amsterdam, 1668, as "The lighting column, or sea-mirroir," etc. Several zee-atlases contained maps with this title slightly varying in size, but so far as I have seen they all were formed on the same model. See Van Loon and Doncker.
