Description
David W. Williams was the first black federal judge west of the Mississippi, a founder of the first black lawyers association in Los Angeles and a crusader in abolishing restrictive housing covenant. A lifelong Republican, Williams was nominated to the US District Court by President Nixon in 1969. He passed away in 2000 at the age of 90.
Photograph article dated July 11, 1963 partially reads, "David W. Williams, judge of the Superior Court in Los Angeles County, will discuss problems facing Los Angeles residents when he speaks to the West Valley Associated Chambers of Commerce on Monday at 6:30 p.m. following dinner in Knollwood Country Club, 12024 Balboa Blvd."
