Description
"Chinese bazar [bazaar]" Street scene showing traders selling their wares in a market, on the left is a permanent covered building from which other traders sell goods. The image is possibly from Yichang [Ichang] where the Church of Scotland had its permanent mission established by George Cockburn (1853-1898) in 1878. Yichang is a thousand miles up the Yangtse from Shanghai, in the province of Hupeh [Hubei], and was an important trans-shipment port for goods to Sichuan through the Yangtse gorges.
