Description
‘Chogoria women carrying thatching grass.’ Group portrait of women on a path two of whom carry large bundles of dried grass. Dr Irvine believed that these women represented the raw material of the revival movement with their raised living standards and monogamist relationships. ❧ The image is from the collection of Dr Archibald Clive Irvine (1893-1974) showing the period from 1928-1961 at the Chogoria mission which was established in 1922.
