Description
Bust-length portrait. "G. Cadenasso, S.F." -- handwritten in lower right corner. 1990-1621. Born in Pennsylvania in 1829, worked for shipping house, Samuel A. Lewis & Bros. in Philadelphia and Port au Prince, Haiti, prior to arrival in Santa Barbara in 1870. Purchased portion of Dos Pueblos rancho - known as Ellwood Ranch - where involved in fruit and olive culture. First successful manufacturer of olive oil in U.S. Between 1885 and 1903 was President of State Board of Horticulture, from 1904-1907 was Horticultural Commissioner of California. Introduced eucalyptus trees. Authored books and articles on agriculture and horticulture. Died in 1918. Also have negative: no. 24,629 (5x5 in.)
