In: [Scenes of Sacramento] [manuscript] / Eugene Walter Hepting. [Sacramento, Calif. : E. Hepting, 1938?], Vol. A, leaf 24.
Oblique view of two buildings adjacent to one another; both buildings share a common roof which shades the gound floor; building on right is two stories with molded, triangular pediment in center of roofline; building on left is three floors; at top of 2nd floor is written "Wood Curtis Company"; top of building also identifies it as Wood Curtis Co. and advertising of it can be seen on the side of its top level; 2nd & 3rd floors have 5 tall vertical windows, embellished by round segmental arches supported by corbels.
Walter Hepting was born in Sacramento (father was from Switzerland, mother from Germany). Worked for the State Treasurer's Office. Was amateur historian, collected old photographs and images of Sacramento.
" Owned and erected by A.A. Bennett, occupied by Paul & Company, Bath-house., J.B.Starr & Co., Auctioneers, Masonic Fraternity, 3 stories, size, 40 x 60, $41,000.Erected in 1854. Mr. Bennett was among the first to venture the experiment of excluding water from his cellar by a compack brick floor laid down in cement. The experiment proved eminently successful......The Wood Curtis people occupied this building commencing back at 1860 when the firm was known as Lyons & Barnes.......The building was torn down in 1937."
