Photograph (engineering notebook photoprint) looking looking west on 4th Street between Flower (just out-of-shot at the bottom) and Beaudry, Los Angeles. A tree's leafy branches are in the left foreground. Also visible are: buildings (dwellings, mostly multifamily), other buildings, automobiles (mostly parked), sidewalks, utility poles and lines, scattered trees, pedestrians. Legible signs include: "Philben Hotel"..., "Randolph Apartments", ..."Park 10"..., "Sunset". The photograph appears to be taken from the 4th Street Stub on Bunker Hill, next to the Castle Towers apartments. The white truck crossing 4th Street is on Figueroa Street, and just behind that on the right are the Randolph Apartments at 915 West 4th Street. The white building on the right side of 4th Street, at the top of the hill, is the Philben Hotel at 1015 West 4th Street. The white building in the bottom-left corner doesn't have a visible sign, but it appears to be the Wells Apartments at 812 West 4th Street. Note: Originally, the image was captioned as, "View looking north on Boylston between First and Temple, Los Angeles, 1937".
