Photograph included in the Exhibit: From Pop to the Pit, The LAPL Photo Collection Celebrates the L.A. Music Scene, 1978-1989. Founded by Garfield High School classmates David Hidalgo and Louis Perez in the mid 1970s, their early sets of Top 40 covers gradually gave way to more traditional Mexican rhythms and melodies combining rock, folk, Tex-Mex, and rhythm and blues, and garnered them multiple Grammy awards and critical acclaim.
