Handwritten notes on reverse, "Editor. This cut will have to be enlarged, I think. July 1923. Part 2nd page one -- "Ah Ping felt a little afraid of the giant figure of Quan Foo Chi & his brother who stood towering on either side of the Joss House." [The two figures in this image can be seen in a larger image of San Jose's joss house featured in Jessie Juliet Knox's book, "In the house of the tiger," with the caption, "The gigantic figure of Quan Foo-Chi and his brother."]
