View of the main entrance to the Garden City Sanitarium located on the north side of East Santa Clara Street between Coyote Creek and Twentieth Street. The sanitarium was set in 5.5 acres landscaped with redwoods, eucalyptus, palms and other tropical plants. The sanitarium was opened in 1897 by Dr. Lewis J. Belknap. It closed in 1920 and five years later Roosevelt Junior High School was built on the site.
